![]() ![]() In the trunk, splice these wiresīlack -> Black ground - there is a body ground right below the hatch release The controllers must be mounted inside the trunk. The kit consists of two 'controllers', with 5 wires. Strip off some of the electrical tape holding the wires together.ĥ.) Start splicing! The kit comes with quick connects but I do not like those, so I stripped all my insulation and made my own connections and taped them up. Take it off, and set it carefully aside.Ĥ.) Locate the wiring harness that goes through the body to the tail lights (its the only harness there). There are 4 10mm nuts around where the wing nuts were that hold the berger panel on. Set a cloth on your bumper so you don't scratch it.ģ.) It will be much easier to run wires with the Berger panel off. I do NOT know if these will just swap over this easily, but in the end, you need the brake/signal bulb to be in the inner position.ġ.) Take off your rear panels that hold the speakers, remove your jack and spare tire.Ģ.) Unscrew the two wing nuts per tail light that hold it in. Yes, just move the middle bulb socket to the inner position, and the inner bulb socket to the middle. Nice and easy! All you need to do is switch out the middle and inner bulb sockets. If you can't find it, just turn on the turn signals and it will click. It is mounted inside a little frame part above the OBD/gas pedal area. It's also a good time to switch to an electronic flasher (EL-12 is what I used) while you have the kick panels off. Verify turn signals still work, with and without brakes on. Have someone hit the brakes and see that the inner bulb should now also light up as a brake light, as well as the middle light. It still feeds power to the third brake light.Ħ.) Verify. We are interested with the two wire one, with a light blue and orange wire.ĥ.) Splice the white wire into the light blue brake light switch wire. Above the brake pedal, there are two connectors, one with four wires and another with two. ![]() The white wire (which will be on the very end) is not used.Ĥ.) Locate the brake switch. There are 4 on one side, and 6 going in on the other, but only 5 going out. If you want to confirm, you can take off the MFS top connector and count the wires going in and coming out. This white wire is not connected to anything past the MFS. It was hard for me to find, but if you follow the steering column back from the wheel, you will see a white wire coming out of a clear "holder". It is a long connector with ~9 connectors. Disconnect the hatch release switch and set aside.Ģ.) Take out the two pop tabs that hold on the next kick panel above the pedals.ģ.) Locate the MFS. So, all we need to do is splice the light blue Brake Light switch into the unused white wire in the MFS of the first wire diagram.ġ.) Take out the 2 phillips head screws in on the top of the drivers kick panel, and 2 7mm bolts on the bottom. Here is a picture outlining the way 97-02 brake light signal goes straight to the rear harness:Īnd here is a 93-96 Camaro, where you can see the brake signal goes to the MFS first, before going to the tails: ![]() This wire now controls the brakes lights activating, rather than the multi-function switch (MFS) of 93-96.īut, here's the cool thing. GM added a light blue wire, which is the brake light switch wire. In 97, the rear harness moved from a 4 wire to a 5 wire harness. So this next step is only for 97-02 cars. From the factory, the 93-96 Camaro middle tail light does this, but the 97-02 Camaro has a separate amber turn signal, which must be combined. In order for these kits to work, the "signal" wire it splices into to control the other 2 lights must be combined brake AND turn signals. Wire strippers/Electrical tape/ screwdrivers/ basic tools etc. 2 more 3057 wedge bulbs (If your's are NOT already dual filament. Electronic Flasher - most likely (EL-12 is what I used) Unless you want your amber turn signal to start the sequence, you should get 93-96 tails. I didn't take any pictures, but will grab a few from around the web. So, I figured I would throw together a small write up for the 93-02 Camaro's. There are NO trailer converters needed, no diodes. Here is a video showing a bunch of different configurations I had my tail lights at the past few days, with the working sequentials at the end: I just finished up putting the sequential tail lights wired up on my 98 Camaro. ![]()
